Indian astrology has been formulated by the sages in ancient India. It has reached us through literary compositions compiled by writers across various historical eras. The earliest treatise on Jyotish is Rishi Parashar's Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra written in 5th Century BC. Subsequently, there have other classics like Brihat Jataka and Brihat Samhita by Varahamihira (6th Century AD), Saravali by Kalyan Varma (10th Century AD) and Phaladeepika by Mantreswar (13th or 16th Century AD). Post-independence, a tremendous amount of research has gone into fine-tuning the principles and interpretations of these astrological methods.
